Carnet groups in the Preferences dialog box all the application's global settings. Choose Preferences... in the Edit menu:

Colorize companies in list: When this option is checked, the records whose 'list by company' arrow is checked appear in color in the list. You can choose any color, but be careful to pick a color that's compatible with your system's hilite color, else the selected cell may become unreadable.

Quit when all windows are closed: Carnet quits automatically when there is no window open.

Open lists in Read-Only mode: See Sharing Lists. This option determines the default behavior of Carnet, afterwards the default may still be changed in the Open... dialog box.

Use fast audio dialing: If you use the Audio mode, try this option. Uncheck it if the dialing is not understood by your telephone or seems to call wrong numbers.

This option is not available on old 68000 Macs, which are not fast enough to support it.

Default settings: These values are used while creating a new record and importing, notably if the field is not linked to the imported file (see Importing).

If the default label is {bracketed}, it will be automatically deleted if the number is empty.

Insert Categories: If you wish to print categories in your address book, you should insert categories at the beginning of the notes.

Insert Dates: Set where to insert the date and which date format to use.

Print zones as: While printing a number, the zone is converted to this text string. For example, an International number can be automatically preceded with a + in its printed version.

Units: Select the unit to use in printing templates.
