Phonomatic

Phonomatic is a companion control panel for Carnet. Its use is optional. It eases and accelerates a lot the access to your main Carnet list by reserving a 'hotkey' to open it instantly.

Installing Phonomatic

Phonomatic is automatically installed by the standard install process. You can verify its presence in the Control Panel folder.

Mac OS 9 (or more) needs Phonomatic 1.1 or more. Starting with that version, the installer also puts the Phonomatic Extension in the Extensions folder.

If Phonomatic is not installed, you can install it separately by choosing the appropriate option in the Carnet Installer.

After restarting the Macintosh, choose Control Panels in the Apple menu and select Phonomatic to open it.

Click the Choose the list... button and choose your main list. If you have not yet created your own list, you can do that later by reopening the Phonomatic control panel. When the list is chosen, its name is displayed in the control panel.

Click the field on bottom of the control panel, then type a key (like F5) or a key combination (like C). Any key or key combination can be entered.

Right now, if you hit the key or the combination, Carnet is launched and opens your list, without the need to go back to the Finder.

Thanks to Phonomatic, your list is always available, instantly open, whatever application you are using.

Still Faster...

While opening your list, you can start typing the first characters of the name you want to reach even before the list window appears. The characters you type are buffered and taken into account, and the right record is directly displayed when Carnet's launch is done.
