Categories

The label icon, on the left of the notes field in the list, is the Categories pop-up menu.

Assigning a Category to a Record

Click the label icon and select a category in the pop-up menu. The categories are displayed in the notes field. You can assign any number of categories to a record.

In the Preferences dialog, you can choose to insert categories at the beginning or at the end of the notes. This can affect printing if the template includes the notes.

The categories appear checked in the menu if they are assigned to that record. To remove the category from the record, choose it again in the menu or delete the corresponding text in the notes field.

Marking a Category

To mark all the records assigned to a category, select Mark Category... in the Search menu. You can also unmark records and accumulate several searches in a row.

Instant Marking of a Category from the List

To quickly select records belonging to a category, choose the category in the pop-up menu while holding the <option> key. Carnet unmarks all records, then marks all the records assigned to the selected category. This function is about six times faster than the search: The result appears instantly.

To keep the records that are already marked, hold also the <shift> key down.

Marking a category works exactly like an extraction: after marking the found records, Carnet switches automatically to Show Marked Records Only to display only the wanted records.
To return to normal mode and display all records (marked or not) in the list, choose Show All Records in the Search menu.
