Template Display

After validating the page setup, the template only displays the "useful part" of the defined printing zone. The grey area shows the paper's non-printable areas.

Example of Card Template

The grey area can be shrinked by choosing a larger paper format in the Page Setup dialog. Many printers default to "US Letter Small" or "A4 Small" while they are actually able to reach a larger "US Letter" or "A4". Some printers can even print on the whole paper surface: The grey area will disappear entirely in that case.

The grey margins are reported on the "useful part" of the printing zone, according to the layout of multiple items on the page, such as sub-pages of an address book, or labels. For example, if the page is divided in two halves, only one sub-page is displayed and the right margin is reported on it, although it only regards the right sub-page:

Labels templates are displayed the same way: The single label shows in grey the four margins of the page. Thus, you can easily ensure that any item put on the label will print correctly on all the labels of the page.

Physical paper margins are reported
on the printing zone of the template.

In general, the grey area display makes it easy to place everything inside the printable zone, whatever size, sub-pages splits and paper format are defined in the template.
