Editing a Record

John Martin has moved, we must update his home phone number. Select his record by typing the first characters of his name.

To edit the number, click on it. The blinking caret appears in the field.

Notice the black frame around the field. Only one field can be in edit mode at once.

Change the number. To end the edition, hit the <enter> key, at the bottom right of the numeric keypad (or near the space bar on some keyboards). The field's frame returns to its normal state and the blinking caret disappears. You are not in edit mode anymore, you are back in browse mode.

Important -- Carnet really has two different modes: browse and edit. The edit mode is activated as soon as a field is clicked to edit its content. When there is no field in edit mode, Carnet returns to browse mode.

When a field is in edit mode, it is framed in black and its text can be edited, selected or deleted.

To end the edition and confirm it and return to browse mode, hit the <enter> key.

To end the edition and cancel it and return to browse mode, hit the <esc> key. Since the edition is cancelled, the field reverts to its previous content.

To go back to edit mode, click on the field you want to edit.
