Adding a Record

To add a record, choose New Record in the Edit menu. The new record appears:

 

 

Carnet puts the name of the field between brackets in each field to make the data entry easier. The Company field goes automatically to edit mode.

In the Company field, enter 'MegaSoft', then hit the <tab> key to move to the next field. The Company field is automatically confirmed and the Firstname field goes to edit mode.

Type 'Jack', then press <tab> to move to the Lastname field. Enter 'Lovingstone', then to move to the Address field.

Oops, the name is not 'Lovingstone' but 'Livingstone'. To move back to the previous field, hit <tab> while holding the <shift> key down . Correct the name, then move again to the Address field.

Enter the following address:
        1234 Great Name St.
        Presume, CA 94852
        USA

Note that the Address field is different from the previous fields, since you can type returns in it.

Now move to the next field, which is the first number's label. As we are going to enter an office number, we can simply type a lowercase o and Carnet completes the field with a soft beep.


If Carnet does not completes the field as 'Office:', verify that you type a lowercase letter and that the caps-lock key is not down. See the Automatic Labels chapter for more details and for the list of the recognized keys.


You can replace the proposed label with another one. The content of the label field is entirely free and can be different in every record.

Move to the next field to enter the number, type a number such as (514) 478 1234.

If you live in a country with different telephone zones, click the icon on the left of the number and choose the appropriate zone in the popup menu.

 

 

In the Dialing Setup chapter, you'll find all the information you need to setup Carnet according to your geographic location and your telephone zone.


If you are still in edit mode, confirm your entry by hitting the <enter> key and return to browse mode. Carnet places the new record in the list at once. Use the two arrow boxes (located to the left of the Company and Firstname-Lastname fields) to set where the record should be inserted in the list: by Company, by Name, or both.
